Industrial Routers - Introduction

The Teldat industrial routers have been specially designed to be installed in extreme environmental conditions such as exterior racks, urban elements (street lights, information screens, bus stops, etc.), industrial warehouses, production lines, vehicles, exterior telesurveillance systems, etc.

Highly resistant elements have been used to design and manufacture these industrial routers, both electrically as well as mechanically and resistance to extreme temperatures  has been priorized by using low consumption components and increasing ventilation.

Teldat has developed an industrial wireless router called REGESTA PRO, which also has ADSL. This industrial 3G router series possesses specific characteristics which has enabled it to comply with the demanding requirements impossed by the utilities market (suppliers of Electricity, Gas, etc.), hence making it compliant with most industrial router scenarios.

As regards to software used to control those industrial routers, this standard is particularly high as it's based on CIT (Teldat Integrated Code) which the rest of the Teldat routers share. This consequently guarantees extensive features, interoperability and guarantees continuity and growth.

Industrial Router - Key features

Highly resistant to adverse temperature and humidity environmental conditions
The following techniques have been followed as the main design criteria for the industrial routers:

a) The use of industrial range active and passive components, guaranteed to operate under extreme temperature and humidity conditions.

b) Using low consumption components which minimize heating up due to consumption.

c) Double lateral ventilation through supervised tachometer fans.

Hardware Encryption
Encryption is a basic need for routers installed outside or in production centers. Consequently Teldat industrial routers for adverse environments incorporate both the maximum security software level (VPNs based on GRE, L2TP and IPSec and related functions such as GET, DMVPN, digital certificates, etc.,) as well as maximum encryption speed through specific hardware devices.

Advanced Routing
The most advanced routing protocols : From RIP2 to BGP4 including OSPF and Policy Routing and adaptation to the most demanding VPLS environments, integrating with technologies such as 802.3Q and VREF, or multicast networks through IGMP.

Telephony over IP
Telephony over IP support  for industrial routers permit IP Telephony to be easily and efficiently integrated into any area, for example exterior intercoms (access controls, gas pumps, shelters, etc.), or emergency intercoms or telephones in production environments, without needing to install additional voice lines.

QoS
In real time production or similar environments, quality of service is a critical point. Consequently the Teldat industrial routers guarantee the most advanced classification policies and traffic management to guarantee the different data an multimedia real time applications operate properly over IP lines. To this end, traffic is classified through powerful access lists (stateless and statefull) which identify each application and flow so they can be treated distinctly. Once the traffic has been classified, it is prioritized by the industrial routers where, at the same time, bandwidth percentages can be established for specific applications, thus ensuring the line capacity is shared as required among the various applications.

Advanced Management

The Teldat industrial routers, by definition, are orientated to hostile and/or dangerous environments. Consequently a powerful and proactive management is needed to ensure communication continuity. To ensure this, the Teldat industrial routers offer state of the art management, always complying with standards such as FTP/TFTP, Telnet, SSH or SNMP v1 to v3.

Additionally, the powerful commands line interface (CLI) as the same time as being simple, is remotely accessible through telnet and ssh, and authentication via RADIUS simplifies operations and remote diagnosis through text configuration and powerful monitoring and debug menus.

The Teldat router network management system, TeldaGES, is also especially orientated to managing Teldat routers, automating proactive management and the maintenance tasks over a large pool of devices.

Industrial Routers - Families and models

There are two Teldat industrial router families that differentiate simply by the way they connect to the WAN network, either through a cable or wireless (HSUP/HSDPA/UMTS/GSM).

T200 and T200G: Routers for industrial applications
The T200 model with Ethernet WAN and serial conectivity, and the T200G model with Ethernet WAN connectivity; both include an 4 and 8 port Ethernet switch respectively and support all the features required for layer 2 (802.1P, 802.1Q, STP, RSTP, 802.1X) and layer 3 so they are indistinguishably used as a switch to the internal network or as a WAN access line through a suitable media converter or DSL modem.

Information on wireless routers for industrial environments can be found in the section on Cellular Solutions.
