Why Teldat?

Telefónica chose Teldat for its enterprise-grade features, its flexible approach to logistics and software, and its in-depth knowledge of the operator’s security requirements. As the service’s first equipment manufacturer, Teldat offered strong performance, adaptability, and fast delivery.

This mid-market offering combines enterprise-grade features, competitive pricing, and technical support, strengthening the partnership and creating room to expand it in the years ahead. The roadmap also includes devices with LTE backup and a possible move to 10G access.

Enterprise-grade equipment with 1G connectivity for Teldat's IE service and business fiber connectivity

Challenge

Telefónica offered two types of internet connectivity: a 1G residential access service, with no remote management or business support, and a fully managed 1G VPN/IP service that came at a high cost. The operator identified the need for an intermediate option: straightforward 1G connectivity for medium and large businesses, with remote CPE management and dedicated business support.

This gap became more obvious as the Spanish market moved from copper to fiber. The gradual closure of copper exchanges and the consolidation of FTTH as the standard left many mid-sized businesses without a clear alternative between sticking with residential-grade access and bearing the full cost of a managed network.

At the same time, as businesses adopted cloud services, videoconferencing, and critical applications, this segment needed a higher level of service than residential access could offer, without the guarantees or price tag of an end-to-end VPN/IP solution. A fast time to market was essential, given growing competitive pressure from other operators already offering similar business fiber services. The key requirements were an intermediate feature set, competitive pricing, fast delivery, and an adaptable product.

Solution

Teldat supplied enterprise-grade equipment with 1G connectivity and features beyond those available from residential options, along with the remote CPE management and business support this segment needed.

Teldat worked closely with Telefónica’s Marketing, Technology, and Security teams throughout the project, from identifying the opportunity to testing and validating the service and optimizing it over time. Passing Telefónica’s technical tests and meeting its security requirements were key to the project’s success.

Fast implementation of templates and configurations made it possible to standardize provisioning at scale, reduce rollout times at each customer site, and launch the service quickly. This aligned with Telefónica’s 24/7 management and monitoring model for its other business data services.

Teldat’s flexible logistics allowed production and delivery to adapt to demand and customer timelines, while keeping costs down for entry-level environments without compromising quality. Teldat became the service’s first equipment manufacturer, and its solution can also be integrated with Telefónica’s SD-WAN.
